About the role
Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
Install, commission, maintain, and repair P25 radio communications systems.
Troubleshoot RF infrastructure, dispatch equipment, network equipment, and communications hardware.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mission-critical communications systems.
Install radio site equipment, equipment racks, grounding systems, coaxial cable, GPS antennas, and site alarm equipment.
Build and test coaxial jumpers and perform line sweep testing.
Support commissioning, optimization, and acceptance of new communications sites.
Replace and verify operation of failed infrastructure equipment.
Coordinate depot repairs, equipment tracking, and inventory documentation.
Utilize RF test equipment during troubleshooting and system verification.
Support statewide implementation projects and ongoing maintenance activities.
Maintain accurate service documentation and work records.
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and customer representatives.
Participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical communications systems.
Travel throughout Wisconsin as required (up to approximately 80%).
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience installing and maintaining RF communications systems.
Associate degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, or equivalent field experience preferred.
Experience with public safety Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems.
Strong troubleshooting skills involving RF, networking, and communications infrastructure.
Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to lift equipment, climb ladders, work in equipment shelters, and perform outdoor field work in all weather conditions.
Preferred Experience
Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:
APCO P25 radio systems
VHF and 700/800 MHz communications systems
RF site implementation and commissioning
Dispatch console systems
Microwave communications
Cisco switches and routers
Windows Server
Linux or Unix operating systems
Anritsu Site Master or similar RF test equipment
Viavi communications service monitors
Grounding and shelter installation
Public safety, utility, transportation, or government communications systems
