Position Details

Title : Staff Accountant

Classification : Regular Full Time (1.0 FTE), Exempt

Location : Oakland, CA

Regular Work Schedule : Full time, M-F

Compensation

Salary range: $70,000-$80,000 per year, depending on experience.

The Staff Accountant is a detail-driven finance professional responsible for executing core accounting functions with high precision and quality. Reporting to the Assistant Accounting Manager and Accounting Manager, this role is critical to maintaining accurate financial records and supporting team-wide efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Manage program-specific billing, including the preparation of monthly invoices and proactive follow-up on outstanding accounts receivable

Accurately deposit and record all incoming cash receipts

Record donations and generate monthly donation reports for review

Reconcile credit card expenses and assist cardholders with inquiries

Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts to ensure ledger accuracy

Verify the accuracy of descriptions on Certificates of Insurance and distribute them to funders in a timely manner

Provide cross-functional support and backup coverage for Accounts Payable operations as needed

Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

At least two (2) years of accounting experience, preferably working with non-profits or healthcare clinics.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related field preferred.

Competencies

Strong understanding of the general ledger and accounts receivable.

Familiarity with GAAP and understanding of the accounting receivable cycle.

Demonstrates strong analytical skills.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Strong organizational skills.

Experience with computerized accounting systems, preferably Abila MIP.

Experience with G-Suite Applications.

Experience with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.

Ability to prioritize and work accurately with close attention to detail, strong time management skills and an ability to work within defined deadlines.

Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse multidisciplinary team.

Ability to work in-person at our Oakland, CA office (relocation assistance not provided)
