Job Description

CSCI Consulting is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to support the administration, maintenance, and optimization of a complex Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) environment. The Senior Systems Administrator will be responsible for ensuring the availability, security, performance, and reliability of Linux, Windows Server, VMware, and cloud-based infrastructure platforms. In this role, you will partner with infrastructure teams, enterprise architects, application support personnel, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and highly available technology solutions while supporting operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

Administer and support enterprise infrastructure environments, including VMware virtual machines, Oracle Linux, and Microsoft Windows Server operating systems

Troubleshoot and resolve complex server, infrastructure, and application issues independently and within established service level agreements

Install, configure, maintain, and support Microsoft Active Directory Services infrastructure

Manage and maintain Salesforce-related user accounts and access controls

Monitor platform performance, capacity, utilization, and overall system health to maximize availability and reliability

Administer DHCP, DNS, IIS, sFTP, and other critical infrastructure services

Support and manage cloud-hosted and virtualized infrastructure environments

Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and cross-functional teams to design scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure solutions

Maintain server hardware and software inventories, configurations, and technical documentation

Participate in database design, implementation, and support activities

Implement and enforce security standards, policies, and procedures across infrastructure environments

Manage Windows Server security configurations, vulnerability remediation, and patch management activities

Provision and administer user accounts, credentials, permissions, and access controls

Support web portals, middleware platforms, infrastructure applications, APIs, monitoring solutions, and network services

Facilitate deployment of application updates, enhancements, and infrastructure changes across environments

Develop recommendations for operational improvements and infrastructure optimization

Support incident management activities, including root cause analysis and service restoration efforts

Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve backup failures and disaster recovery issues

Respond to infrastructure monitoring alerts and performance concerns

Manage and resolve customer support tickets, requests, and escalated technical issues

Participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical business systems during evenings, weekends, and holidays

Contribute to system architecture planning, infrastructure modernization, and cloud adoption initiatives

Develop and maintain operational procedures, configuration standards, and disaster recovery documentation

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience

5+ years of experience administering and supporting enterprise server environments in production

Strong experience with Oracle Linux and Microsoft Windows Server operating systems

Experience administering and supporting VMware vSphere and virtualized infrastructure environments

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory Services

Working knowledge of SQL scripting and database concepts

Experience supporting DHCP, DNS, IIS, sFTP, and related infrastructure services

Knowledge of NAS and SAN storage technologies and connectivity concepts

Understanding of domain and forest administration, networking fundamentals, and routing/switching concepts

Experience with performance monitoring, tuning, capacity planning, and system optimization

Basic to intermediate proficiency with shell scripting and automation

Experience troubleshooting server, application, and infrastructure issues in production environments

Ability to design, document, and support enterprise infrastructure solutions

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

Ability to gather, interpret, document, and evaluate technical requirements

Experience communicating technical solutions and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Creativity and adaptability in problem-solving

Ability to work with clients to understand their needs

Strong organizational and time-management skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Skills

Experience with VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM), VMware Cloud Director, and VMware migration tools and methodologies

Knowledge of Morpheus VM Essentials

Experience supporting Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) environments

Experience with public cloud platforms, including Microsoft Azure, AWS, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

Experience migrating applications and services to cloud environments

Experience installing, configuring, and supporting CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and GitLab

Knowledge of containerization technologies, including Docker

Experience implementing and supporting analytics and reporting platforms such as Looker

Intermediate proficiency with Python, Bash, or other scripting languages for automation and integration

Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management practices

Knowledge of networking and cybersecurity principles

Experience managing relationships with cloud providers and managed service vendors

Experience working within an ITIL-based service management framework

Understanding of disaster recovery, business continuity, and high-availability solutions

Relevant Linux certifications such as RHCSA, RHCE, Linux+, or equivalent

Microsoft, VMware, Azure, or cloud infrastructure certifications

Experience supporting financial services, government, or highly regulated environments

Experience developing operational standards, infrastructure governance processes, and technical documentation

Strong commitment to continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction

Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently

Strong customer and vendor relationship skills

Demonstrated ability to comply with data standards and policies

Motivation to learn new technologies and methodologies that demonstrate value

Past experience working with a state/local government agency
