Studio Operations Specialist

Role Summary

Advanced Systems Group is hiring a Studio Operations Specialist to run day to day operations at a new studio in Washington DC for one of the nation's top private universities. This is a hands-on, on-site role where you serve as the primary technical support for every session, opening, running, and closing each one, and catching and fixing audio, video, and network issues as they come up. You will run podcast style live events for students from start to finish, including a run-through beforehand to confirm everything is ready to go. You will get about 60 hours of paid training to get fully fluent on the studio's systems, and you will work closely with the university's existing studio operations team in Los Angeles to bring DC up to their standard. This position is part-time with variable hours and will work as needed according to the studio's bookings. Occasional early, late, or event-based support may be required.

Key Responsibilities

Session Support

Open, prep, and close every studio session, including a run-through beforehand to confirm readiness

Serve as the primary on-site technical support for faculty, staff, students, and guests

Handle routing, monitoring, and playback checks during sessions, and make the call on whether a session is ready to go

Coordinate with university stakeholders on booking logistics, access, and session expectations

Audio, Video, and Network Troubleshooting

Troubleshoot signal flow across the studio's NDI and Dante based audio and video system, which runs on recorded workflows rather than live streaming

Diagnose network issues using tools like Wireshark, and work comfortably with multicast, unicast, and DHCP concepts

Navigate the studio's firewall setup, including the port tunneling used to reach the university's corporate network, well enough to troubleshoot when it breaks

Run bandwidth tests to chase down video stuttering or other performance issues

Support the on-site Dell server running the studio's video, audio, and related systems

Work with basic Extron hardware used for device extension (this is not a full control system, so Extron or Crestron programming is not required)

File Delivery and Storage

Operate and monitor local studio storage used for recordings and file staging

Manage delivery of finished files to end users, including handling notifications and troubleshooting failed deliveries

Monitor storage capacity and help manage retention schedules

System Administration and Maintenance

Perform routine maintenance, patching, and system updates during approved maintenance windows

Maintain configuration baselines and backups so systems can be rebuilt quickly if needed

Track software licensing status and coordinate update schedules with vendors

Maintain a spares strategy and coordinate repair or replacement through RMA workflows

Maintain checklists, change logs, network diagrams, credentials documentation, and clear escalation notes

Coordinate with the university's Los Angeles studio operations team on standards, training, and workflow alignment

Systems You'll Work With

Cisco and Arista switching, a Dell server, Apple endpoints, Extron basics, Shure audio, NDI and Dante devices including Birddog and Glensound, and ETC or ARRI style lighting.

Required Qualifications

4 to 5 years in live production, broadcast, or audio, with an audio-first skill set (video experience helps, but audio comes first)

Background in podcast production, radio, or a recording studio

Strong hands-on fluency with NDI and Dante, the two systems this studio runs on

Confidence running a session solo, from the pre-show check to the final go or no-go call

A working understanding of networking concepts like Wireshark, multicast, unicast, and DHCP, and the ability to troubleshoot connectivity and bandwidth issues when they come up (this role does not require configuring or building the network)

A self-starter who catches problems early and takes direction well

Experience supporting macOS and Windows endpoints, plus basic server and storage administration

Preferred Qualifications

Live event or corporate AV experience

Familiarity with VPN and controlled remote support tools such as Parsec

Familiarity with AD and SSO

Experience with hypervisors, including Proxmox exposure

Basic scripting or automation for repeatable tasks
