General Description
R.E. Mason is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Hardware Engineer to join our engineering team. This role will focus on the design, coordination, and documentation of hardware systems for industrial and building automation control projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in electrical and control system design, proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, and the ability to communicate with vendors, and fabrication partners.
Specific Responsibilities
Participate in regular project coordination meetings with internal teams, clients, and vendors.
Collaborate on prefabrication activities to ensure designs are ready for efficient build and installation.
Design control system panel hardware layouts; includes developing a bill of materials; heat dissipation calculations, defining environmental constraints, defining appropriate components for design.
Design control system panel electrical circuits; includes AC & DC power circuits, power loading calculations, circuit sizing.
Define and manage I/O (Input/Output) requirements for control systems.
Generate and maintain I/O tables for all project phases.
Create equipment datasheets and ensure proper documentation is maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
Develop and maintain register mapping for field equipment communicating to PLCs.
Use AutoCAD Electrical to create and update:
Floor plans for equipment layouts.
System architecture diagrams.
Control panel layout diagrams.
Detailed wiring diagrams.
System diagrams with point lists.
Sequence of operations documentation.
Installation details for field implementation.
Design communications network architecture; includes defining appropriate network components & cabling.
Required Competencies
Ability to read and understand prints, electrical drawings, schematics, installation & operations manuals and specifications
Proficient in AutoCAD™
Familiar with using test instruments including Digital Multimeters & Loop Simulators
Fluent in English Language – written & verbal; good communicator
Proficient in using computers, peripherals and Microsoft Office™ applications, especially Excel™
Ability to work in a standing position for extended periods
Ability to follow detailed instructions / procedures to complete tasks and required documentation
Ability to document field modifications
Ability to work in an environment requiring a high level of attention to detail
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize activities

Strong leadership qualities
Organized and able to develop/utilize templates and/or standards
Ability to perform activities that may require climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching and crawling; work may be performed inside and outside; includes being exposed to extreme heat, noise, vibration, mechanical hazards, electrical hazards, chemical hazards, atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system or skin
Ability to wear required PPE without limitations
This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in the office and two days working from home .
Required Education and Experience
Minimum of two (2) year technical associates degree in electrical engineering discipline or equivalent certification from an accredited trade school
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant facilities experience in a manufacturing environment that includes control systems, instrumentation and/or electrical design/engineering work responsibilities and exposure to control systems such as PROVOX, RS3, DeltaV, Honeywell, ABB, Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc…
United States Citizen with valid driver’s license
Preferred Experience/Competencies
Ability to utilize maintenance software for the purpose of troubleshooting control systems and/or instrumentation such as AMS™
Familiarity with using MicroStation™ CAD software
Expert in using Excel™
Ability to create construction specifications and contractor bid packages
Familiar with instrumentation calibration methodologies
Familiarity with machine reliability and asset monitoring field equipment and monitoring software
Experience with buss technologies (Fieldbus, Profibus, DeviceNet, ASi, Serial)
